A Live-Action Assassin’s Creed Series Has Been Greenlit By Netflix

It’s been working in the shadows for a hot minute

Netflix has officially greenlit a live-action Assassin’s Creed series.

A statement from Ubisoft confirms that Roberto Patino, known for his work on Sons of Anarchy and Westworld, and David Wiener, known for Homecoming and the Halo series, will act as the creators, showrunners, and executive producers.

While we don’t yet have any casting info or concrete details on the setting, the statement does give a brief description of what to expect from the series: “The Assassin’s Creed live-action series is a high-octane thriller centred on the secret war between two shadowy factions: one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, the other fighting to preserve free will. The series follows characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”

The remainder of the post is filled with flowery language from executives and suits at Netflix, but the general vibe is quite positive so far. Regardless, it has to be better than the Michael Fassbender-led 2016 film…right?

I’ll be honest, I initially thought this was a completely new story, but something in the back of my mind found the headline familiar. That’s because the partnership between Ubisoft and Netflix was originally announced in 2020, with the next update coming alongside the IP roadmap that was outlined in 2022.
