A Phasmophobia Film Is Officially In Development

And it’s by Blumhouse, too

A horror film adaptation of Kinetic Games’ Phasmophobia is now in development with Blumhouse.

Since its early access in 2020, Phasmophobia has captured the attention of millions of players worldwide thanks to its hands-on paranormal investigation and cooperative gameplay with friends. It has become a staple in the horror genre and a go-to when deciding which multiplayer experience you’d like to play.

And now, Phasmophobia is officially coming to the big screen thanks to Blumhouse, known for the hit game-to-movie Five Nights At Freddy’s. James Wan’s production company is also getting involved, known for The Conjuring Universe. It’s safe to say that Phasmophobia is going to get royal treatment and become another horror-filled nightmare players can get excited about.

“We’re thrilled to officially announce that a Phasmophobia film adaption is in development – it’s a big moment for the whole Kinetic team, and the start of something really exciting,” said Daniel Knight (Dknighter), Director of Kinetic Games and Lead Developer of Phasmophobia. “We never could’ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago, and we’re so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can’t wait to share more as the project develops.”

Although we don’t have a release date for the upcoming movie, Kinetic Games has announced an upcoming update to Phasmophobia to keep fans excited. The update, better known as the Chronicle update, has been revealed to be released on June 24, 2025. Despite them leaving most of the information closer to update day, they have mentioned some things coming. This includes:

Players will also need to fill a book with thirteen unique media items to complete the perfect investigation. Although they only teased a few things, there’s already so much to get excited about. They’ve also mentioned that there is more to come throughout the year, such as a brand-new map. Those who would like to see more as we approach the update can follow Phasmophobia on social media or join their Discord to access additional information.
