Developer Housemarque has announced that its upcoming bullet-hell action title, Saros, will release on PS5 on March 20, 2026.
Finnish studio Housemarque took pole position during this morning’s PlayStation State of Play, showcasing Saros with a gameplay reveal narrated by Creative Director Gregory Louden. This girthy, five-minute trailer confirmed what most of us expected, in that Saros would be a natural evolution of Returnal’s combat and movement. Protagonist Arujun Devraj, played by the wonderful Rahul Kohli, traverses through the “shape-shifting plant of Carcosa,” which is inhabited by strange beings that fire familiar-looking energy projectiles at our leading man.
Movement and combat look very similar to Returnal, down to the quick dodge and weapons, although the trailer highlights a few exciting new advancements. The Soltari Shield allows the player to block and absorb incoming projectiles, launching that damage back at enemies with a Power Weapon. Lastly, a Second Chance mechanic was shown off, wherein the player is downed during a fight, only to get back into the action thanks to the ability. This hints at a larger system at play. On the PlayStation Blog, Louden explains that “This is one small part of the permanent-progression systems we have added in Saros, which will allow you to always come back stronger after each death.”
