Nintendo has announced Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Switch 2 Edition coming to the platform on January 15, 2026.
Fans of the cozy debt simulator have been eagerly awaiting a Switch 2 update ever since the console launched in June, and now we finally know it’s coming. The Switch 2 version will feature a range of new updates and additions, such as improved visuals and mouse controls to help you easily decorate your spaces. A more novel update is the megaphone item, which will have you screaming at your Switch to call your islanders to you.
A far more practical and socially acceptable change sees the online multiplayer count rise from eight to 12, with the inclusion of GameChat, which allows you to speak to your friends as you fish, catch bugs, and plead to Tom Nook for an extension on your next payment.
On the same day, New Horizons will also get a free update that adds a bunch of content to the game. A new seaside resort run by Kapp’n and his family will have you decorating guest rooms to draw in potential customers. Doing so well will net you tokens to spend at the resort’s gift shop, where you can purchase themed items to decorate your own home. Grumpy old Resetti has also opened a cleaning service, which you can use to spruce up an area that needs attention or plant flowers to make things look nice.
The last significant change comes from Slumber Island, an additional, customisable space that your islander will drift off to when they sleep. Here you can…do the same thing you do on your original island, with the added bonus of choosing the time of day and island size. Oh, and you can slightly terraform the island to your specifications, creating rivers, lakes, and hills.
Expanded storage options, LEGO, Legend of Zelda, and Splatoon crossover items and islanders are also included in the update, alongside extended Amiibo support.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Switch 2 Edition will retail for $87.95, with an upgrade pack available to those who already own the game, running them just $8.
