April 2023’s PlayStation Plus Essential Games Have Been Confirmed

No fooling, just gaming

Oh, sorry, I didn’t see you there. Has it been a month already? I’ve been locked away, ignoring all responsibilities while playing the revitalised Battlefield 2042. I haven’t seen daylight in weeks.

Yes, in March, PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers were saddled with the aforementioned squad shooter, Minecraft Dungeons and Code Vein. This lineup gave 2042 a shot in the arm that it desperately needed and provided players with a solid dungeon crawler and an anime Soulslike. But the month is coming to an end, so let’s look forward.

As announced on the PlayStation Blog, the PlayStation Plus Essential games for April are Meet your Maker, Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Tails of Iron. These three games will be available to download from April 4.

If you’ve ever gotten stuck on a particular level in a game and ended up cursing the devs for creating such a challenging gauntlet, you’ll want to check this one out. Looking to bring some catharsis to your game-playing life, Meet Your Maker lets players design their own outposts, filled with deadly traps and confusion mazes, to then upload them for other players to take on. Or, you and up to one other friend can launch yourselves into someone else’s creation to see if you can survive it in first-person action. Meet Your Maker releases on April 4, so it’s hitting the service day and date of release, so the community creations will probably be wild with the number of players jumping in. Be ready.

Few gaming mascots are as adorable as PlayStation’s Sackboy. The loveable little hessian dude debuted in the creative side-scroller Little Big Planet, which went on to have two sequels and a pair of often-forgotten portable outings. These 2.5D platformers are beloved, and rightfully so, but the expressive fella jumping into a full 3D adventure proved that he’s more than a side-scrolling Sackboy. A Big Adventure retains the charm of Little Big Planet while injecting fresh ideas and a new perspective into the mix (we gave it an 8.5).

The rock-hard RPG space is packed to the rafters these days, so standing out in the field is quite a feat. 2D RPG Tails of Iron manages to do so with a striking visual style, a novel premise and narration by Doug Cockle (Geralt from The Witcher games). Set in a world where a medieval rat kingdom is under threat from an invading force of frogs, you play as Redgi, heir to the throne, tasked with avenging his family and reclaiming his birthright. It’s a unique title that’s well worth a play, especially while it’s free. We gave Tails of Iron a 9.5.

If you haven’t downloaded Battlefield 2042, Minecraft Dungeons and Code Veins, you’ve got until April 3 to do so. As always, please remember that you can add these games to your library and download them later if you don’t have any precious space on your hard drive.

Which game will you be downloading first? What games would you like to see in March? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
