Good news for anyone that exclaimed, “So no Astro Bot?” and snapped their skateboard in half after yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play broadcast.
Seemingly wanting to put a 24-hour gap between the PS5 trailer blowout and this news, PlayStation and Team Asobi have revealed that the award-winning 2024 3D platformer is getting another round of five free levels. Like the group of new stages we got last year, these new ones will be rolled out on a weekly basis starting with the first one today, and each level will include new Special Bots to rescue as well and will feature an online ranked Time Attack mode.
Here’s the list of level names and release dates (time zones permitting):
Astro Bot Free DLC Round 2 Release Dates
- February 13th — TICK-TOCK SHOCK
- February 20th — THRUST OR BUST
- February 27th — COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOM
- March 6th — HARD TO BEAR
- March 13th — ARMORED HARDCORE
(Yes, one of them is called Thrust or Bust)
And here’s a quick peek at the first addition, Tick-Tock Shock, which is available now and challenges players to cross deadly hazards using the Timer Backpack:
Alongside these new levels, the game is also getting a small update aimed at PS5 Pro users. While it doesn’t do anything special with new visual features or PSSR implementation, the update is seemingly tapping into the added horsepower of Sony’s upgraded console to boost resolution across the game. The official line is that “owners of the PS5 Pro will be able to enjoy an improved version of Astro Bot featuring a constant best resolution while still running at 60 frames per second.”
We gave Astro Bot a huge 9/10 when it launched last year, with Adam writing in his review, “Astro Bot is a wonderfully entertaining and diverse platformer that throws new ideas at you at an incredible rate, topped with stunning visuals and an injection of PlayStation nostalgia.”
