August 2023’s PlayStation Plus Essential Games Have Been Revealed

Dreaming of doors and drivers

August is a busy month for me, but why let social engagements get in the way of a good game? In July, PlayStation Plus Essentials gave us Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Alan Wake Remastered and Endling – Extinction is Forever, but we’re here to look into the future, not the past.

As announced on the PlayStation Blog, the PlayStation Plus Essential games for August are PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams and Death’s Door. These three games will be available to download from August 1.

Now the only golfing I really do is the kind where you get a bucket of balls and aimlessly (emphasis on the aimless) smack them into an open field. That said, I know that the sport is wildly popular, and so too, are the games that emulate it. PGA 2K24 introduces playable female golfers in online and local play, as well as a course creator that will let you recreate the 18 holes you tee off from in real life.

This. This really excites me. Developed by Media Molecule, the team behind Little Big Planet, Dreams is an incredible game creation suite that empowers players to design and develop their own experiences. Whether it be music, a short film or a playable game, you’ll have the intuitive tools to create it. Now, major support for Dreams is being sunset in September, but Media Molecule is giving us one last gift in the form of a new game made in Dreams, titled Tren. We gave Dreams a 10.

Coming from the talented two-person studio Acid Nerve, the team behind the kick-arse Titan Souls, Death’s Door is a charming action game that puts players in the feathers of a reaper crow. Moving through various beautiful environments to take on elegantly designed and challenging bosses with a suite of unlockable weapons and abilities. If you can’t tell, I really love Death’s Door. Play it. We gave it a 9.

If you haven’t downloaded Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Alan Wake Remastered and Endling – Extinction is Forever, you’ve got until July 31 to do so. As always, please remember that you can add these games to your library and download them later if you don’t have any precious space on your hard drive.
