It’s the first Overwatch World Cup since 2019, so slather your Vegemite warpaint on and raise your koalas. The top 16 teams have emerged from the qualifier battles – and you better believe that our Aussie heroes are not only heading to Anaheim for the Group stage, but they are doing so with an undefeated record:
NZ asked, we listened! Team AU is back in all its beefy, salad-y, saucy glory! Being undefeated means more with Team AU, as we finish the World Cup UNDEFEATED (we dropped 1 map but don't worry about it.)

The main website is a little inaccurate with the faces you can expect to see in this phase (Punk stepped out of the team after some stellar gameplay, his spot now taken by the dynamic dad-beast that is Meritt) but from checking over the official Australia OWWC social media I can provide your list of champions below:
- Bertlog [Support]
- Ackyyy [Support]
- Cuffa [Tank]
- Meritt [Tank]
- Nanda [Damage]
- Naahmie [Damage]
- Qin [Damage]
These are the Vegemite-powered paragons of our sunburnt country – heading to BlizzCon to take on Brazil in the Day 1 pre-finals group stage.
The #OWWC2023 Groups Stage is coming in hot!

Only the top 2 teams from each group will make it to the finals LIVE from BlizzCon - let's hear your predictions! pic.twitter.com/IXwFaf3ufb
And the thrill of cheering on your home turf heroes isn’t the only takeaway from such an event, with a huge range of in-game goodies to nab by watching on Twitch. A positively massive Blog post has appeared on the Blizzard website giving you all the information on where to watch, and what you can do to start grabbing the goods. I have a mighty need to get the Australian team weapon charm logo, so I can cosplay like I am one of those god-tier gamers while trawling my local arcade game trash fest.
For now, make sure you jump into your platform of choice to follow our Aussie team (Either via their social media feed or in the Discord) so you can see their developments as they head over to Anaheim.
Oh, and don’t forget to #RaiseYourKoalas – complete with adorable ascii bear friend here:ヽʕ •ᴥ•ʔノ
