Ball X Pit Will Be Getting Three Free Updates In 2026 To Ensure I Have No Free Time

More balls, more balls, more balls

Publisher Devolver Digital has announced that the hit roguelike Ball x Pit will be getting three free content updates throughout 2026.

If you haven’t played/heard of Ball x Pit, then I can’t help you. Have a word with yourself and fix this issue immediately. A more level-headed response would be: Ball x Pit is a roguelike brick-breaker, not unlike the arcade classic Breakout. While that’s accurate, it also only scratches the surface. Multiple playable characters, each with their own abilities and play styles, various upgradable and combinable balls, an entire farm-building mechanic that doubles as a progression pathway, boss encounters scattered throughout the multiple themed levels, and ever-encroaching enemies that chant as they slowly approach you, to strike fear into your ball-bouncing heart. It’s hard to explain why Ball x Pit is so fantastic, and why it’s already eaten away at my free time, but just trust me and play it as soon as you can. Run, don’t walk.

Anyway, with that out of the way, let’s take a look at the future of this marvellous little game. Throughout 2026, Ball x Pit will receive three free content updates that are set to introduce new characters, balls, evolutions, buildings, and more. The Regal update will be the first cab off the rank in January, followed by the Shadow update in April, chased by the Naturalist update in July. The update trailer gives us brief little hints at what to expect from these content drops, but the gameplay is hectic enough that I couldn’t accurately pinpoint anything worth drawing your attention to.

With that said, this trailer also mentions the insane sales milestone that Ball x Pit has reached, with the title having sold through a million copies, which is equal parts deserved and amazing.

I’m not the only one on the WellPlayed team obsessed with balls, either. Kieron took the lead on our review, giving Ball x Pit a nine, saying, “Ball x Pit manages a dangerously intoxicating blend of arcade brick-breaking, ball-based alchemy and town planning that I haven’t been able to put down.”
