Battlefield 6 Season 2 – Nightfall Is Live With A New Map, Limited-Time Mode, And Vehicle

Going dark

Battlefield 6 Season 2 – Nightfall went live today, bringing with it a new map, a limited-time mode, two new weapons, and a new vehicle.

Battlefield 6 moves into phase two of Season 2 today, with the introduction of the Nightfall content. As detailed in the Season 2 roadmap, Nightfall’s primary new inclusion is the Hagental Base map, a close-quarters, infantry-only space filled with tight corridors, demanding sightlines, and plenty of opportunities to create new flanking routes. Tied to the other new map from this season, Contaminated, this map is set in the German Alps; however, while Contaminated dealt primarily with wide-open spaces, Hagental Base centres on an underground bunker.

The new map joins regular rotations, but Season 2 also introduces the Nightfall limited-time mode. In Nightfall, players will be thrown into the bunker during a power failure, meaning it’s lights out. Everyone will be equipped with a set of night vision goggles; however, they run on a limited charge, so you’ll need to use them sparingly. You’re also free to equip flashlights, thermal scopes, and lasers, but they’ll all come with a set of pros and cons (like everyone knowing exactly where the hell you are).

Nightfall also introduces the CZ3A1 SMG and the automatic vz. 61 sidearm, which is sure to change the meta. For better or worse? We’ll have to wait and see. A new vehicle also joins the fray: the M1030-1 dirt bike, which I’ve seen in action and is capable of flips, so be ready for some shenanigans. It’s nimble and deathly fast, like that bastard Little Bird, so mentally prepare yourself for the chaos to come. A new bonus path has been added to the battle pass if you’re keen on unlocking some cosmetics and XP boosts, as well.

We slapped a massive 9 on Battlefield 6, saying in our review that, “Battlefield 6 does more than recapture the feeling, it sets a new benchmark for the series. A return to classes and squad-based gameplay are met by excellent maps, tight controls, and an all-timer of a new mode, making this an unmissable multiplayer experience.”

Since launch, there have been a few roadblocks that have upset the community, particularly regarding the post-launch content rollout and an overreliance on limited-time modes. Moreover, despite smashing sales records with the release of Battlefield 6, Battlefield Studios has been hit by a recent round of layoffs, which seems somewhat at odds with the needs of the community and the game at large.
