Blizzard Has Just Donated 30 Million Maggots To Save Injured Birds For Earth Day

All hail Duriel, King of the Maggots

It’s not the strangest headline I’ve written, but it’s close.

Blizzard, developer and publisher of the Diablo series, has just celebrated Earth Day by running a fun like drive that resulted in the company donating 30 million maggots to help in the recovery of sick and injured birds in the UK. Alright, this will require some explanation, I get that.

To celebrate Earth Day, Blizzard ran a social media drive on X. For every 25 likes on the below post, the Diablo dev donated a bucket of maggots to Tiggywinkles, a wildlife hospital that treats thousands of injured critters every year in Britain. Obviously this is a net win, but how exactly does this have anything to do with Diablo? Well, not only did the promotion cap out at 666 buckets, but the event was called Durial’s Offering, and Duriel is the Maggot King.

Overall, this is an excellent bit of PR that’s resulted in a sizable donation to a good cause. According to Blizzard, this maxed-out donation will provide the animal hospital with enough food to keep the birds going for over two years, so that’s a win in my eyes.

Have you slain Duriel in Diablo 4? Do you feel bad about that, knowing that he’s actually an altruistic bird rescuer?
