Bungie’s Marathon Has Been Reintroduced With A New Release Window And A Price Point

Let’s try this again

Developer Bungie has reintroduced its extraction shooter, Marathon, announcing multiple improvements and changes, while also locking in a March 2026 release window for both PS5 and PC.

Following a significant amount of feedback provided to Bungie following the game’s Alpha test and preview cycle, Marathon’s release was delayed indefinitely, allowing the team to rework key aspects of the project to better meet players’ expectations and desires. Today, Bungie released a new “Vision of Marathon” ViDoc that effectively reintroduces the game alongside all of the tweaks, reworks, and improvements made during the extended development period.

Together with a PlayStation Blog post, it’s been confirmed that Marathon is targeting a March 2026 release, with no specific date chosen as of yet. Additionally, the post mentions that the first-person shooter will have a “target price” of $39.99 USD, which shakes out to be roughly $60 AUD. Pre-orders haven’t gone live, and the deliberate use of the phrase “target price” leads us to believe that this might change before March, though we don’t know which direction is more likely.

As for the trailer itself, the 23-minute ViDoc goes right back to the game’s foundations, acknowledging the original vision’s shortcomings, addressing them, while also taking the opportunity to reintroduce the core experience. While it’s clear that many changes have been made, the core takeaways are the implementation of proximity chat, the addition of solo queues, and the overhaul of the game’s visual clarity and identity. Most importantly, this long look at Marathon is far more engaging and interesting than what we’ve previously seen, thanks to both the changes made and the clarity of what players will experience during any given run.
