Games based off anime/manga are a dime a dozen these days, with the genre becoming more and more popular not only in Japan, but also in the West. So it would make sense that Bandai Namco would pick up another franchise to adapt into video game form, right?
The thing that I was not expecting was for that franchise to be Captain Tsubasa, a football (or soccer, whatever tickles your fancy) manga that started in the 80s and has had multiple anime adaptations over the years. The announcement trailer starts off normal enough, with shots of Tsubasa himself making his way to the pitch, but by the end of the trailer it damn near looks like a fighting game with flashy special moves to boot.
Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions will be making its way to PS4, Switch and PC sometime in 2020.
