A crisp and downright diabolical blog post has been shared via the Blizzard Entertainment news feed today, showing off what denizens of Diablo IV can expect for the foreseeable future – with a tasty little tidbit revealing that the next expansion for the game is as close as next year.

In the blog post they share a graphic of what to expect and when, covering bonus details like incoming IP collaborations – similar to the Overwatch crossover events. There is also an anniversary event on the cards for the games second birthday, so expect neat in-game goodies and an event to blow out Diablo IV’s candles.
As for returning features and events, the dot points have you covered:
- Belial’s Return: Belial, Lord of Lies has returned to warp reality to his will. Daring wanderers can clash with Belial and 2 bosses from Vessel of Hatred as part of the updated Lair Boss system.
- Sins of the Horadrim: We return to Nightmare Dungeons with new activities and interactions that let you progress the dungeon’s intensity as you hunt down the barons of Hell.
- Infernal Chaos: Infernal Horde Updates – Infernal Horde is becoming more chaotic as we put new choices into your hands. Plus, advanced options between Infernal Waves will arrive, too.
- Quality of Life Updates: Beyond seasonal updates, there are other permanent additions coming to Diablo IV.
- The frequently requested feature, keyboard and mouse support for consoles, will give you more control over how you experience Sanctuary once it arrives.
- Core system updates are coming to both the Battle Pass and Seasonal Journey, ensuring these features evolve in ways that are more rewarding.
Great returning features to keep people engaged sounds great – but the saucy part of this update is twofold, firstly mentioning that changes will be coming to both the Battle Pass and Seasonal Journey. There has been a great deal of debate about how these reward tracks feel a bit lacklustre to push through, mostly due to their silo’d nature. They are just sort of there. Apparently these systems are being reworked into something called “The Reliquary”, as confirmed in a PTR campfire chat – but full details are still scarce. The goal is to offer greater player control over rewards, so the fact that the battle pass may evolve into something a little more interactive is a good start.
The other tasty truth-bomb is the reveal that 2026 will bring the second expansion to the game. No other details exist of course, but the smouldering banner of the roadmap paints it out, clear as day.
Might we finally see a Paladin return to the game? Or some other light-wielding plate wearer? The Spiritborn was a big surprise, so maybe the ongoing plan will be to innovate new class archetypes.
Maybe Tinker will come to Diablo IV before World of Warcraft. I’d be down for it.
