Developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco have released the story trailer for the highly-anticipated Elden Ring DLC expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.
The initial gameplay trailer for this seemingly mammoth expansion introduced us to a new boss, Messmer the Impaler, as well as the mysterious new location of the Realm of Shadow. While we got a tantalising tease of what to expect, we were largely left in the dark when it came to specifics. Well, the official story trailer is here, and we still largely have no idea what’s going on. Ok, that’s not exactly fair, but in classic FromSoft fashion, we’re left to fill in plenty of blanks on our own.
What we do have confirmed is the presence, or former presence, of the illusive demigod Miquella. While pivotal to the game’s deep lore, the brother of everyone’s favourite rot queen, Malenia, remained almost completely absent from the base game, save for a quick wave from within an egg. Outside of the golden-haired god, we also see more from the imposing Messmer the Impaler doing what he does best…impaling.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree releases on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on June 21.
