In a recent announcement, the developers at Iron Galaxy and Modus Games have published a new trailer showcasing much of what players can expect throughout Extinction when it launches on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 10, 2018.
Take a look at the jam-packed trailer for yourself below:
For those just wanting the TLDR – as far as the story is concerned – Extinction follows the story of a hero named Avil, a new trainee inducted into an ancient order known as the Sentinels, dedicated to preserving the knowledge of the monstrous threats to the land of Dolorum, known as Ravenii. Unfortunately for Avil, the Sentinel order has degraded over the years and he is now the last hope for humanity, the one that is able to eliminate the Ravenii.
Now, as for the combat, Iron Galaxy is a studio known for their work on fighting games, and as such, they have applied their expertise to the action-adventure genre giving Avil a wide variety of skills and attacks. On top of this, the studio has also implemented a feature which allows players to cancel their attacks into almost any attack they want to at any given time!
But how will Avil be able to the Ravenii all by himself, you ask? Well, that’s where the Rune Strike comes in to play. This attack can be used to dismember the massive ogres and can be further powered up by saving people, killing Jackals, destroying Ravenii armour, dismembering the Ravenii themselves and accomplishing objectives within each mission. One fell swoop of the Rune Strike is all Avil needs to stop a Ravenii, but that doesn’t mean that it will be easy.
For those interested in the strategic aspects of the game, note that Avil has A LOT of options as he travels through the city (note that these tools and strategies can also be used on the Ravenii). Avil is able to run vertically up a surface or can use his whip to grapple to new heights. There are many types of Ravenii, each with their own attacks, armour, weapon combinations, and behaviours. Avil will need to overcome the challenge of climbing up the massive monsters, removing their armour, avoiding spikes and other obstacles that may hinder him, all while dodging the giant’s attacks long enough to perform the devastating Rune Strike. Prioritizing competing objectives with the threat of civilians dying and towns being destroyed is what will truly test the skills of the player.
Extinction will launch on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 10, 2018, and is available to pre-order now. For those looking for more information on the title, head over to the official webpage.
