Ghost Of Tsushima Legends Anime Coming From Star Wars: Visions Director

Another Ghost of Tsushima adapation in the works

PlayStation Productions is teaming up with Crunchyroll, Aniplex, and Sony Music to create an original anime series based on the Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer DLC Legends. The show, which is loosely slated for release in 2027 exclusively on Crunchyroll, will be led by Star Wars: Visions director Takanobu Mizuno with animation done by studio Kamikaze Douga who Mizuno previously worked with on his Visions short, The Duel. As a quick reminder, The Duel was that sick black-and-white short about a roaming Sith warrior that was later adapted into the incredible novel Star Wars: Ronin by Emma Candon. Writer Gen Urobuchi will be helming the story composition.

The news was announced at Sony’s CES 2025 press conference alongside a whole host of other Sony gaming-related adaptations, including Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn movies. Legends has something of a cult following among PlayStation players for its inventive multiplayer offering that remixed the aesthetics and world of Ghost of Tsushima into a heightened fantasy setting that emphasised action and horror steeped in Japanese folklore.

Crunchroll president Rahul Purini expressed enthusiam over the collaboriatve effort behind the series, praising the synergy Sony has been able to achieve in harnessing its growing stable of anime production and distribution channels. In a press release he states that “The Ghost of Tsushima anime will offer fans an exciting new way to experience the game in an anime style that will be bold and groundbreaking.”

Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, echoed this sentiment. “Having already proven the immense quality and versatility of our gaming properties across multiple successful film and television projects, we couldn’t be more excited to announce our first ever anime adaptation,” said Qizilbash, “Ghost of Tsushima’s rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project, and Aniplex is the perfect partner to translate Sucker Punch Productions’ hit video game into a stunning new anime series.”
