March 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the God of War series, casting an eye all the way back to the OG dropping on the PlayStation 2.
So what better way to celebrate the occasion, than to march out the legendary TC Carson who brought Kratos to life in the Greek saga and have him announce that the original trilogy will be receiving a remake!
Now the extent of the announcement is pretty straightforward, with some familiar flaming logos and the impressive smile of TC revealing the following:
- TC Carson is on deck to voice the younger Kratos
- It’s the original trilogy being remade
Not a lot else at this point, with the big man TC confirming what we all would expect: This project is still very early in development.
But what could we expect? Well, my first assumption is that that beauty of doing a remake of the original games is the ability to free them from their current platforms. The recent God of War games have seen great success on PC, and players new and old would likely love to see where those remarkable flaming chain-blades came from all those years ago.
I personally replayed through every one of the older games (yes, even the PSP ones) in the lead up to playing the 2018 God of War, and it was a stark comparison to behold. I doubt the remakes will be changed to match the tone of the Christopher Judge’ games, but the idea of having a similar graphical fidelity tickles me greatly – especially when it comes to the option for storytelling throughout that original Greek tragedy. I’d love to see the PSP games brought into the fold, if only for the narrative moments that add some depth to the bloodthirsty Spartan vengeance machine.
It’s going to be a wild ride, with Carson making it clear:
“I’m telling you, next time we come back, [we’re] coming with something big, baby.”
I am all eyes, all ears and all scowls to see how this one develops.
