I think it would be hard to argue that 2025 has been a pretty stellar year for games. Long-awaited sequels finally saw the light of day, debut titles blew away all expectations, and the online multiplayer scene got multiple shots in the arm. The race to the big prize is littered with deserving participants, from a contemplative hiking experience (with babies and whales) right through to an ape destroying everything in sight for a banana-shaped gem. Most have pegged one game in particular to sweep the categories of Geoff Keighley’s annual awards show, but upsets happen, and with such a stacked line-up, I would not be surprised if we see one.
