Heroes Of The Storm Rises From Its Grave To Celebrate Its 10th Birthday

That’s right, HotS is having a birthday and we are all invited

No, you did not read that title wrong. Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm is not just turning 10 years old – it is receiving a teeny tiny patch to celebrate it.

Not bad considering the game effectively suffered its ‘end of life’ back in 2022, when the announcement was made that the game would receive no further major development. That meant no new events, characters or additions – entering the retirement home that is maintenance mode for online game.

However in recent days, balance updates to the game have been generously helpful. Fixes and changes have been deployed to ensure the ‘dead game’ was still fun to play – with players responding with genuine joy to see it happen.

And for its tenth birthday, a small gift for players – in the form of some anniversary portraits, and a new skin for Thrall.

On paper, it’s not a lot. But keeping in mind this is a game in ‘maintenance mode’ – anything being added to it at all is a surprise. The skin itself is a goofy little cel shaded venture that turns Thrall into a cartoonish engineer, which is delightful in its own way – if a little jarring to behold at first.

There is a slim ray of hope within the fan community of Heroes of the Storm, if only for a possible resurgence for the game post-Microsoft buyout. Why not bring the game back and add a range of incredible Microsoft characters – such as Marcus Fenix, John Halo and Forza Motorsport car. Like, genuinely, why not.

But please, jump in to Heroes of the Storm for its tenth birthday and have a game or two. You may just remember why it was so well liked.
