Developer Team Cherry has announced that a free expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong titled Sea of Sorrow will be released in 2026.
Adelaide-based studio Team Cherry announced today that a free expansion for its beloved Metroidvania sequel is coming in 2026, and it’ll be free for all players. The expansion is called Sea of Sorrow, and, while we don’t have heaps of info just yet, we do know that it will introduce “new areas, bosses, tools, and more.” The announcement blog post confirms that the expansion will have a nautical theme, while the YouTube trailer description mentions that protagonist Hornet will “Voyage across and beneath the salt-stricken seas in this thrilling expansion.”
That’s not the only exciting news to come from Team Cheery, either. Alongside the reveal of Sea of Sorrow, the team revealed that a Switch 2 version of the original Hollow Knight will also be released in 2026. In one last tidbit of good news, those who own a Switch copy of Hollow Knight will be eligible for a free update to the Switch 2 version.
