Iconic Horror Series Halloween Is Getting Two Video Games With Original Creator John Carpenter Involved

I’m excited to see these take Shape

According to an exclusive report from IGN, two games based on the popular Halloween horror series are currently in development.

This report, which popped up from behind a bush today, reveals that developer Boss Team Games, known for The Evil Dead: The Game, is working on two separate titles based on the long-running horror franchise that started in the 1970s.

The report goes on to reveal that one of the projects is being created in Unreal Engine 5 and will have input from the series creator and original director, John Carpenter. This tidbit is exciting for a number of reasons. Firstly, Carpenter is a horror icon who directed not only the original (and best) Halloween but also The Thing and The Fog, to name a few. Secondly, the man is one of us, publicly outing himself as a gamer on many occasions. Let’s not forget that he’s also working with Saber Interactive on John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando.

We don’t know much about either of the titles, but the report contains a tiny clue from the devs, stating that players will “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.”

Coming from Boss Team Games, we might be able to assume that at least one of these titles will be an asymmetric multiplayer experience akin to The Evil Dead: The Game. While the genre isn’t to everyone’s liking, The Evil Dead is a pretty solid example of that approach done right, with solid combat and an engaging gameplay loop (we gave it a 7.5). So, if this game is going in that direction, it’s in good hands.

So yes, all in all, having Carpenter involved in the game’s development is a pretty exciting proposition. And hey, if you’re as excited to know more about the Halloween games as I am, you can head over to the project’s new website and register your interest to be kept in the loop.
