Keanu Reeves Is The Ultimate Life Form In New Sonic X Shadow Generations Movie DLC

Woah, Shadow knows gun fu

A cool reveal as part of the September 2024 PlayStation State Of Play shows that the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations will also include some additional content that acknowledges the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 3 movie, by way of a special bonus gameplay experience with Shadow exploring Tokyo.

And the neat part? He will be voiced by Keanu Reeves to match the movie!

Detailed via the official PlayStation blog, series producer Shun Nakamura explained some of the reasoning behind the tie-in.

At what point in development was it decided to include DLC in the title?
Nakamura-san: This title has been developed to satisfy not just the Sonic game fans, but also those who see the Sonic movie and become fans of Sonic and Shadow for the first time.

But of course, we didn’t expect to have Shadow from the movie included in this game, as the world for the movie and game are different – we thought that it would be challenging to do so.

However, we saw an almost festival-like opportunity where we have the movie and game being launched almost at the same time. We decided to pursue it and have work on movie-related content with development starting last Autumn.

How is this content pack related to the movie? (Without spoilers of course!)
Nakamura-san: This content will not have a story which per se that would relate directly to the movie. Rather, as you can see in the trailer, it will be set in Tokyo, where Shadow visits in the movie.

The development team also lives in Tokyo, so we tried to develop this setting an enjoyable place as a Sonic game but also clearly showing the Tokyo-likeness. We even went out for research to the actual area being used in the game for inspiration.

We feel it is very exciting to play as Shadow in a real existing city, so please look forward to it.

For the full write up, it’s worth heading over to the full post on blog.playstation.com – but for the most part it is just neat to see that the game platform best suited to ‘collecting’ key experiences with the quilled avenger is happy to try and acknowledge the cinematic universe also. It also means we are one step closer to Sonic: The Hedgehog: The Movie: The Game, and that makes me tremendously happy.
