Plumbing is a pain at the best of times, but it’s made infinitely worse when you’re the reason the kitchen is flooded. Developer Virtuos is currently in that exact face-in-hands situation, as images of the unannounced The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster were leaked on the studio’s own website.
We’ve heard from every industry insider and their pet dog that Bethesda’s Oblivion is getting a remaster and that it’s “bound to release any day now.” That said, we hadn’t had anything overly tangible, that is, until Virtuous slipped up and added a bunch of screenshots onto its website. Spotted by internet sleuths and uploaded to Reddit and other forums, these screenshots show a graphically improved version of the 2006 RPG.
While most images show standalone environments, including a look at a mean-looking Oblivion gate, two other screenshots show a side-by-side comparison with the original game. And let me tell you, it’s a stark difference. The Virtous website was nuked and has been scrubbed clean now, but the internet never forgets, so you can take a look at the screenshots here:
But wait, there’s more. One final image shows that the game will have a deluxe edition, containing weapons, armour, and, you won’t believe this, horse armour. Yes, partying like it’s 2006, Oblivion will once again have downloadable horse armour. I don’t think this will have as significant an impact as it did to the industry back then, and it’s more of a funny little nudge and a wink, but hot damn that’s a bold move.
I’d usually say something like, “It’s a leak, so take it with a grain of salt,” but I’m pretty confident you can take this one to the bank.
