Developer Enhance has announced that its upcoming rhythm puzzle game Lumines Arise will release on PS5 and PC on November 11.
Revealed during the June State of Play, Lumines Arise is the next instalment in the rhythm-based puzzle series that dates back to 2004. Looking like nothing more than a musical Tetris to the uninitiated, Lumines sees the player manipulating 2×2 blocks that they slam down to create coloured blocks that then disappear and net points. Ok, I see where the Tetris comparison might come from.
Enhance is developing this version of the long-running series, the team behind the absolutely excellent Tetris Effect. Huh, that doesn’t help the comparisons, does it? Regardless, Enhance is a standard bearer for highly-engaging musical puzzle games, so that bodes exceptionally well for Arise.
If you’re curious about this oddity I’m babbling on about, or you’re a Lumines die-hard, don’t fret, you don’t need to wait until November. Beginning today and running through September 3, you can download a free demo on PS5 and PC that consists of three easy-mode single-player stages for players to experience. The demo will also offer a glimpse into the new multiplayer mode, Burst. This allows two players to battle against each other, throwing garbage blocks at each other in an effort to overwhelm their screens.
You can watch the Lumines Arise demo explainer trailer here:
A line comes through at the beat of the music, clearing the blocks and scoring all completed squares. I was obsessed with Lumines: Electronic Symphony on the Vita, mainly because I found the musical accompaniment to the challenging puzzling enthralling. The game was harder than hell, though, so be prepared for that.
