To celebrate the horniest day of the year, Crunchyroll Game Vault is reminding players of its themed collection of games perfect for Valentine’s Day. Leading off with the addition of Sweet Sins 2, an action-rhythm game now playable on mobile via the Vault, the Playtonic developed title is described as “A unique blend of rhythm-based gameplay and stunning anime-inspired visuals. Players will guide their favourite magical girls through an exciting adventure filled with challenges, treasures, and sweet rewards.” Sweet Sins 2 has enjoyed a positive fan reception on the Google store with users praising its cute character design and catchy tunes.
Elsewhere the Vault has 40-odd titles for players to choose from, with a few highlighted by Crunchyroll as being primed for some lovin’ this February 14th. MAGES’ award-winning visual novel STEINS;GATE offers up a sci-fi take on the genre (you can also watch the anime series if that’s more your speed), while Arc Systems Works and Wayforward’s River City Girls titles feature heroines out to rescue their boyfriends in old school beat-em-up style.
For my money though, the most exciting Valentine’s Day-appropriate game in the Vault is Studio Sai’s Persona-inspired Eternights. One part action-game about the end of the world and one part dating-sim about a group of teens trying to find connection as reality caves in around them, Eternights is a radically sincere little title that punches well above its weight. In my review of the game I was particularly taken by how refreshing it was to have a gay romance option in a game like this, the genre typically skewing entirely one way in the love department. “…the ability to be gay in a genre so thoroughly alienating to me was a marvel. It was also emblematic of Eternights as a whole; a little uneven and requiring some good faith on the part of the player, but if you’re willing to get on board, this train ride will take you to some very cool places.”
It’s one of the cooler additions Cruncyroll Game Vault has on offer and speaks to the curation process happening over there on some level. The Vault launched in late 2023 and is availble to subscribers on the Mega and Ultimate Fan tiers of the anime streaming service.
Are you gonna play my favourite romance game of 2023 or are you gonna let me down? Be sure to let us know in the comments below and on social media.
One part pretentious academic and one part goofy dickhead, James is often found defending strange games and frowning at the popular ones, but he's happy to play just about everything in between. An unbridled love for FromSoftware's pantheon, a keen eye for vibes first experiences, and an insistence on the Oxford comma have marked his time in the industry.
