For fans with the Nintendo Today app running, they will have been thrilled to get a first look at Splatoon Raiders – a new spin-off from the main Splatoon game that is coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
Looking a hell of a lot like a single player (or at least PvE) experience, Splatoon Raiders will see player going on an adventure in the mysterious Spirhalite Islands alongside the splat-tacular Deep Cut trio. Here’s the trailer:
The Splatoon North America social media account offered a few more tidbits, such as how the new protagonist for Splatoon Raiders is “an expert mechanic with a mysterious background”. That may well explain the ink tank and walking robot.
Besides this surprise reveal, an announcement was also made regarding a significant free update for Splatoon 3 that is on the way. On June 13, version 10.0.0 will be released to bring some performance and visual improvements to the game to leverage the power of the Switch 2, but will also bring back the Urchin Underpass stage from the original Splatoon as well as 30 new weapon kits from the Barazushi and Emberz brands. Players can also enjoy an increased cap on some in-game progression systems, so if you are resting on your inky-laurels thinking you have beaten Splatoon 3 – you best load up and get to splatting.
I personally love PvE content in my Splatoon experience, so I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for more details on Splatoon Raiders as they develop. Can I play with mates? Is it a full blown campaign, or just a little sandbox mode? Guess we will see.
Are you surprised by this sudden, inky announcement? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
