PlayStation could announce its Game Pass competitor subscription service as early as next week if a report from Bloomberg is to be believed.
The service, which is codenamed Spartacus, will merge Sony’s existing PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now services into multiple offerings for players that will include modern and classic PlayStation titles.
When Spartacus does launch, it will do so with a “splashy lineup of hit games from recent years.” However, where the service will reportedly differ from Xbox Game Pass is that PlayStation’s big first-party titles, such as God of War Ragnarök, which isn’t a huge surprise given the cash cow that Sony first-party titles usually are.
There’s no denying that Microsoft is miles ahead of PlayStation when it comes to subscription services, and while PlayStation has done an admirable job of making solid titles available via its monthly PlayStation Plus service, it’s time the company has a service of it’s own that competes with Game Pass.
