Developer Asobo Studio and publisher Focus Home Entertainment have revealed Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2026.
Ignoring an unfortunate leak less than 24 hours before the event, the reveal for Asobo’s next title in the Plague Tale series came during this morning’s Xbox Games Showcase. Set 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem, Resonance follows the early adventures of Sophia, a companion of Amicia and Hugo, throughout the course of the second game. Playing as Sophia, players will explore the Minotaur Island, a location rich in history and steeped in myth. In a bid to uncover the secrets of her past, Sophia will explore the ancient land, solve various puzzles, and engage in vicious combat against a variety of foes who all seek the same thing: the mysterious treasure at the centre of the mythical maze.
Judging by the game’s reveal trailer and the details afforded to us by the title’s Steam page, we know that time will be spent in the Middle Ages, when the events of the game take place, while also shifting to the distant past of the Minoanian times. All of the mysteries and secrets are intertwined with the Macula and the rat-infested future awaiting Sophia, though we can expect some revelations and twists along the way, no doubt.
A departure from what we’ve come to know of the Plague Tale series, Resonance looks to have a stronger focus on combat, with the skilled Sophia more than willing to engage in close-quarters fisticuffs with anyone in her path. We have many questions about this series spin-off, namely what it means for the franchise’s future, but for now, we’ll watch the trailer a few more times and wait.

The WellPlayed team are fans of A Plague Tale’s brutal and unforgiving storytelling and world design, and we’re interested to see where this next instalment leads. We gave A Plague Tale Innocence a 9 in our review, only to be just as blown away by its sequel a few years later, slapping another 9 on A Plague Tale: Requiem. In our review of Requiem, we said, “With stunning visuals, incredible performances and a poignant and grim narrative that hits hard, A Plague Tale: Requiem is a truly compelling journey even if it buckles under its own ambitions along the way.”
