Sick New RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Announces Killer Voice Cast And Release Window

One Way Out!

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the turn-based RPG from Sandfall Interactive, has landed itself an absolutely stacked voice cast. Unveiled earlier this year as part of the June Xbox Games Showcase, the Final Fantasy/Persona-inspired RPG immediately garnered interest with its compelling aesthetics and somewhat unique position as a Western-developed, explicitly JRPG-influenced title. Now, a new trailer has given us another look at the game in action (it continues to have the sauce) as well as highlighting the acting talent leading the English voice cast and unveiling a 2025 Autumn release window.

The biggest name of the bunch is mocap legend and Andor unit Andy Serkis as Renoir, joined by Daredevil‘s Charlie Cox as protagonist Gustave and Final Fantasy XVI star (and the internet’s favourite boyfriend) Ben Starr as Verso. The cast also includes video game alumni Jennifer English (Elden Ring), Kirsty Rider (Sifu), and Shala Nyx (Cyberpunk: 2077: Phantom Liberty).

It’s certainly a striking assortment of ideas, influences, and systems playing out so far in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, though how it all synthises remains to be seen. The hyper-realistic facial animations make tremendous use of the great cast and the game’s riff on European fantasy aesthetics collide with heightened, vibrant creature designs in what looks to be one of the more visually arresting experiences of a console generation in desperate need of some new looks.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 revolves around a group of Expeditioners who only have a year left to live as they navigate a dangerous world in pursuit of the Paintress, a fated figure of sorts who stands between the gang and the floodgates of proper noun fantasy. It’s early doors on the premise and narrative but Sandfall Interactive’s “Reactive Turn-Based” combat system already has us intrigued, taking elements of active and passive combat loops and melding them into something unique. Traditional gear, stats, and moves will still adhere to RPG basics but with layers of timed button inputs and parries to impact the tide of battle. If it plays even half as good as it looks, we’re in good hands.
