Paramount Pictures has announced that the sequel to hit 2020 film (it was okay) Sonic the Hedgehog will appropriately be titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and will release in theatres on April 22, 2022.
The announcement was accompanied by a short teaser trailer that revealed the films logo and release date, with a saucy rendition of Emerald Hill Zone playing in the background.
Groundbreaking. Thought provoking. Extremely obvious. Presenting the official title of the #SonicMovie sequel: Sonic the Hedgehog 2! Catch #SonicMovie2 in theatres in 2022. pic.twitter.com/SlVk7fakp3

The “2” in the title being yellow and sporting two distinct fox tails confirms that Miles “Tails” Prower himself will have a role in the film, which for viewers of the first film won’t be much of a shock given his brief appearance at the end of the movie.
Other than the title, logo and confirmation of Tails, there isn’t much more known about Sonic the Hedgehog 2. There has yet been a confirmation of cast, but it seems fair to assume that Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz will reprise their roles of Dr. Robotnik and Sonic respectively.
As a Sonic fan, I really do want to see this movie succeed. The first film was pretty average and I wouldn’t say I’d be shocked if the sequel was the largely the same. But hey, here’s to hoping for something special!
