Sony Announces Horizon: Zero Dawn And Helldivers 2 Films In Production

Also details on the UNTIL DAWN film adaptation were revealed

As part of Sony’s CES press conference for 2025, Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, took to the stage to drop a media bombshell on fans of major Sony game properties – only the news wasn’t gaming related, but rather how those titles were coming to the silver screen.

An announcement was made that Columbia Pictures (who produced the 2022 Uncharted movie adaptation) were in “early stages of developing a film adaptation of the award-winning Horizon Zero Dawn.”

Asad himself said:

Just imagine, Aloy’s beloved origin story set in a vibrant, far future world filled with the giant machines, brought to you for the first time on the big screen.

Then, news that a Helldivers 2 movie collaboration between Sony Productions and Sony Pictures is underway. Details at this point are slim, likely on account of there not being a great deal to talk about. Asad was at least enthusiastic about the project, stating:

Looking ahead as to what might come next, I’m excited to announce we are working with Sony Pictures on developing a film adaptation of our amazingly popular PlayStation game Helldivers 2

And for those that have been hankering for news about the Until Dawn film adaptation, a nugget of info was shared in the sense that a confirmation was made that the new movie would be focused on a new set of characters, with a new (unique) story.

For those that love their Dr. Hill moments, the other tidbit shared was that Peter Stormare will be reprising his role from the game.

It’s a huge bit of news from Sony, given that many probably expected things to be a little more gaming-centric when it comes to PlayStation announcements. It will be fun to see how these items develop, considering the ‘unique’ gamut of Sony pictures output.

Helldivers 2 by way of Madam Web would be a wild ride.

How do you feel about more big time game title coming to a movie theatre near you? Keen to check in with Aloy’s origin all over again? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
