The World Championships of Warhammer preview is currently underway, and as part of the phenomenal deluge of new and exciting upcoming Warhammer releases a few familiar faces appeared for the Warhammer 40,000 Ultramarines line – with some of the cast of Space Marine 2 getting physical model updates to bring their skills to your tabletop.
This is spotlighted in a downright hot trailer video, with a cinematic offering to get us up to date on how our boy Titus has not only received a promotion – but a sexy new set of duds:
Not just Titus however – but both his Space Marine 2 squadmate Valorem Gadriel and his recruiting office slash mentor Metaurus (from the Amazon series) both get stunning new models to help Titus in his conquest:
There are some other people too, but they are not leaping out at me as lore-centric individuals so bah to them.
Speaking of Lore, however, the reason this has me all aflutter is that both the cinematic and model progression actually have some serious repercussions for the Space Marine video game storyline.
We all know that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 is in development – it is coming, it is underway, however you wish to describe it.
And it will continue the story of our good mate Demetrian Titus, hardest working blue boy in the Imperium. Where this model update gets interesting is the reveal that Titus now has the rank of Captain – effectively replacing Captain Acheran from Space Marine 2 (the bloke who could only ever spare 3 men for any missions). This comes at the behest of the overall leader of the Ultramarines, the living primarch Roboute Guilliman, who is essentially a demigod by human standards – who has elevated Titus’ position in order to conquer a total of 500 key imperial worlds. Woof, that’s a big ask.
So, it poses the following questions:
- How big of a time-skip are we seeing between Space Marine 2 and Space Marine 3?
- Will we find out what happened to Captain Acheran?
- Will Titus’ new station as a captain impact his ability to get his hands dirty?
- Can he spare more than 3 men?
- Why the hell didn’t Meduras Chairon (Titus’ 3rd squadmate) get a miniature? Is he okay?
- Is this story progression something mandated by Games Workshop, or Saber Entertainment’s writing team?
- Is this order to liberate the fallen worlds a healthy tease for what will take place in Space Marine 3?
- Are we going to meet Roboute Guilliman?
Overall, it’s a very interesting development – if only for the curious case of Games Workshop openly embracing their digital poster boy.
I sincerely hope it only leads to good things.
What do you think of Titus’ new update? Enjoying his dripped out cloak and furry shoulders? Do you want to pick up his new model for yourself? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
