Ah, the Old West. A time of pioneers, outlaws, opportunity and conflict. Many Americans were drawn out west by the promise of gold to be found and land to be purchased (and definitely not stolen from any other cultures), and many legends were formed of famous cowboys and bloody battles. It’s a period in history absolutely ripe for exciting fiction in every medium, but video games based on the American Frontier are still few and far between. Cue Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2, a highly anticipated open-world cowboy simulator that promises to be one of this year’s biggest releases. Of course, it’s hard to have a mammoth video game release in 2018 without also launching a shit-ton of tie-in merchandise, and so here we are with the Red Dead Redemption 2 Outlaw Essentials Collection.
The collection features a veritable wagon-load of Red Dead themed loot, from portable chargers shaped like dynamite sticks to ornate Zippo lighters and even scented candles. My personal favourites are the Metal Earth 3D puzzles and leather phone cases, but for the less knick knack-inclined there are the staple offerings like Rockstar and Red Dead t-shirts and stickers.
