The Penguin Gets A Release Date And A Trailer Filled With Gotham Mob Violence

The rise of a Gotham crime lord

DC and HBO have announced that the crime drama limited series The Penguin will begin streaming on Binge starting September 20, with episodes dropping weekly thereafter.

Continuing the story from Matt Reeves’ The Batman, The Penguin is an eight-episode series centred around aspiring crime boss Ozwald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot, who looks to seize power following the death of mobster Carmine Falcone. Looking almost unrecognisable in the role, Colin Farrell returns as the titular Penguin, joined by Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, and Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar.

Matt Reeves returns to the world he helped create as an executive producer, with Lauren LeFranc (producer on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) acting as a writer and showrunner and Craig Zobel (director on Westworld and American Gods) stepping in to direct the first three episodes.

Premiering this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, the trailer for the upcoming series gives us a good indication of what to expect: backstabbing, loaded conversations, and back-alley gunfights between warring families.

As someone who loved The Batman, and greatly enjoyed Colin Farrell’s portrayal of The Penguin, I’m all kinds of excited for this series. The trailer sets the tone well but doesn’t give us the whole pig, so I’m excited to jump in head-first on September 20.
