The Sinking City 2 Launches Kickstarter And Gives First Look At Gameplay

Time to sink some money in

Frogwares has launched the Kickstarter for its upcoming sequel The Sinking City 2 and it has also given us our first look at the gameplay.

The Sinking City 2 is the follow-up to the 2019 title that saw Frogwares pivot from its Sherlock Holmes series to a Lovecraftian-inspired detective game. However, this time around, Frogwares is focusing more on crafting a survival horror experience with a greater emphasis on combat, which can be seen in the gameplay teaser below. Excitingly, Frogwares is targeting a 2025 release for The Sinking City 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The Kickstarter, which is running until April 7, 2025, is chasing AU$168,000,00 / US$105,000 / €100,000 in funding to assist with the game’s development. This number seems small for a game with lofty ambitions; however, Frogwares CEO Wael Amr has explained that the funding will be used as a safety net rather than for direct development costs.

“After three years of this horrid war hanging over our daily lives, we’ve learned to adapt, though it has never been easy. In 2023 when we released Sherlock Holmes The Awakened with the help of Kickstarter and our loving fans, we built ourselves a safety net that saved us more than once. From power outages and the need for team members to relocate on short notice, to having to pause development for days, this safety net was crucial. Given that The Sinking City 2 is a far more complex and demanding game, we’ve decided to take the same route as before.”

Those who pledge to the Kickstarter can grab an exclusive Collector’s Edition for €200 (not including shipping) / AU$350 approx / US$215 approx, which features goodies such as a 25cm Deep One statue, a 150-page artbook, soundtrack vinyl, metal Cthulhu poster and more. If you still want some physical treats but don’t have the cash to splash on the Collector’s Edition, there’s a Kickstarter-exclusive Limited Edition for €100 (not including shipping) / AU$170 approx / US$110 approx. A basic pledge for just a digital copy of the game is priced at €45 / AU$75 approx / $US50 approx. Other options include the ability to create in-game content and pre-purchase the DLC.

But of course, you’re much more likely to drop some money on a project if you like what you see, and the gameplay teaser that Frogwares has shared will likely get investors excited – I certainly am. In the teaser video, we get brief looks at the flooded world and the creatures that inhabit it, and an investigation, but the star of the trailer is the combat and horror vibes, which look great so far. I’m definitely excited to see more of it as the year progresses.
