Well hot damn.
As some of our fans will know, I’ve been playing a lot of the new Shadow of the Colossus remake on the PlayStation 4 this last week or so. My in-depth review will be right here on Do You Even Game, Bro? as soon as the review embargo lifts on January 30th, but there’s one thing I felt I had to share right away.
Someone’s gone and added a brand new mystery collectable to Shadow of the Colossus!
Here’s what they look like in-game
While I have no idea what their purpose is, these hidden coins can be found dotted around the landscape in some fairly inconspicuous places. The best way to tell when they’re nearby is a handy chiming sound that eminates from the DualShock 4 controller. So far, I’m struggling to figure out any kind of pattern to their locations, but I’ve currently found a total of eight of them. My best guess is that perhaps there could be as many hidden coins as there are Colossi in the game, but for the most part the places that I’ve found them don’t really line up with that idea.
Once picked up, they simply disappear from the world and so far I’ve turned up nothing to indicate how they’re used and they aren’t mentioned in any of the game’s tracked stats.
File this one under Mystery Yet Unsolved.
Update: I’m no longer alone in my quest, some eagle-eyed early players have spotted this number that appears on the map screen after a while, that acts as a counter for the pickups. I’ve found almost 70 so far and new information based on a clue in the credits points to the final number being 79. But we shall see, for now the mystery continues…
