When Nacon and Cyanide showed off a slick cinematic trailer for Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood back in August I was cautiously optimistic about its potential. Of course we hadn’t actually seen the game in action at that point, but now Nacon and Cyanide have lifted the lid and shown off the game’s gameplay for the first time in a brand new trailer.
Backed by a narration from the game’s director Julien “Patch” Desourteaux, the first look gameplay trailer shows players what to expect from the RPG when it launches on February 4, 2021 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S and PC (Epic Game Store), and surprisingly it doesn’t look too shabby.
The trailer kicks off by divulging some of the main story beats. The game’s main character, Cahal, is on a mission to stop mega-company Endron from destroying the Garou’s (werewolves) way of life.
Perhaps the most intriguing part of the gameplay is Cahal’s ability to transform between three different forms on the fly: Homid (human), Lupus (wolf) and Crinos (werewolf). Each form has its own abilities and boons – for example Lupus is better suited to stealth whereas Crinos is ideal for those moments where you need to inflict devastating damage.
The game’s combat, while a touch janky, is fast-paced and looks like it could be a fair amount of fun. Check out the gameplay trailer below:
