Blizzard has unveiled what comes next for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, with an exclusive developer preview of the next major content patch: Eternity’s End.
Pushing the narrative forward, we discover that Zovaal (the artist formerly known as THE JAILER) has managed to infiltrate a pocket dimension that is apparently capable of re-writing the rules of reality. This place is known as Zereth Mortis, and it doesn’t exactly take a genius to figure out why it should remain off limits.
Players will step foot into one of the most alien and puzzling landscapes ever imagined in World of Warcraft – a place where afterlives are created, and even creation itself is a work in progress. Ever wanted to see a prototype of a chicken? Well, this is the place where you can achieve just that.
Some key features mentioned by the developer team includes progression to learn the unique magical language of the ‘First Ones’, teaming up with the robotic beings that inhabit the landscape – as well as a new raid that will include the return of Class Tier Sets, a long term staple of the game that was controversially scrapped during the previous expansion.
Some other details are rapidly dot pointed, while most of it is fairly expected:
- Mythic+ and PvP Season 3
- Tazavesh added to the Mythic Keystone Dungeon rotation
- Note: The Tazavesh dungeon will be split into two separate dungeons for Seasonal content.
- New Mounts and Pets
- Updates to Professions and Conduits
- New dancing mini-game at the Darkmoon Faire
- And much more!
While the aesthetic is beautiful and quite captivating, there has been a healthy dose of player unrest towards the story. An outcry of players targeted some narrative elements that were present in the previous Chains of Domination patch, and their resolution may well still leave players dissatisfied.
Personally I remain invested at a surface level – the story of Warcraft is one that is approaching two decades worth of content, and really all you can do is experience every peak and trough as it occurs. As new age Blizzard continues to expand it’s feedback network for improving their games, we can imagine that there is scope for narrative changes to take hold.
Eternity’s End will receive further previews, and eventually a PTR cycle. No release date it currently slated, but feel free to seek out details at worldofwarcraft.com.
