WWE 2K26 Is Heading Back To The Attitude Era With Three Glass-Shattering Editions

It’s time to play the game

Developer Visual Concepts and publisher 2K have revealed three different editions for WWE 2K26 ahead of the game’s full reveal.

While WWE 2K26 won’t properly make an entrance until January 31, when we get the reveal of the game’s cover star and game features, that hasn’t stopped 2K from releasing promos to hype up the main event. To cut through the wrestling jargon, 2K has revealed the three editions that will be available for this year’s iteration of the grappling sim. We don’t know what these three editions will offer in terms of content, but the cover stars and themes certainly hint at what we can expect from WWE 2K26’s showcase mode, at the very least.

Revealed on Friday Night Smackdown, the first cab off the rank is the Attitude Era Edition, featuring prominent stars from the period, such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Kurt Angle, Lita, Trish Stratus, The Dudleys, and Shawn Michaels. For those unaware, the Attitude Era is the name given to the years between 1997 and 2002, wherein the WWE (WWF at the time) enjoyed a huge boom period, largely thanks to its edgy content and the insane number of high-tier talent that padded out the roster.

Saturday Night’s Main Event (weirdly) unveiled the Monday Night War Edition, featuring wrestlers on both sides of the divide. The Undertaker, Chyna, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Stone Cold, and The Rock represent the Fed, while Eric Bischoff, Booker T, Goldberg, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and Hulk Hogan fly the WCW flag. Another history lesson for those out of the loop, the Monday Night War was a ratings battle between WWE’s Monday Night Raw program and WCW’s Monday Nitro. It saw counter programming, invasions (kind of), and tanks, oddly enough.

Finally, as shown on Monday Night Raw, we have the King of Kings Edition. As the name implies, this edition is wholly and solely focused on one man. The Cerebral Assassin, The Game, The Connecticut Blue Blood, Triple H. While the water fountain of a man now sits at the head of WWE’s creative, he once ruled over the roster as arguably one of its greatest heel characters. That is, if you prioritise genuine hatred over anything else. It makes sense for a 14-time world champion and two-time WWE Hall of Famer to grace the cover of an edition, even if it looks a little self-indulgent these days.

Again, we don’t know anything more than who is on each cover, but the strong focus on Attitude Era stars and storylines makes this wrestling fan think we might be reliving the greatest moments of that time period in this year’s showcase mode. Better still, I’d love to be able to reinvision the Monday Night Wars and alter the outcome. In any event, we will know more when the game is fully revealed later this week.
