You Can Now Grab Some Retro PS5 Boot Screens For PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary

What’s old is new again (and 4K)

The celebration of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary has kicked off with a new console update that brings a taste of old-school charm to you PS5 console – plunging users into the console experience of yester-year with some dope retro boot screens that relive the days of the OG PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Users that have updated their PS5 are turning on their consoles today to get blasted with the old-school sound of the PS1 boot experience, before being greeted with a new UI that allows them to pick their distinct PlayStation flavour – or, a distinct 30th anniversary special.

Each theme is immaculately accurate, with the familiar sounds and looks of that particular generation. As an old salt, I felt right at home with each of them – though I do wish there was some way to make the PS5 display the terrifying PLEASE INSERT A PLAYSATION 2 DISC screen that used to prompt such panic from a younger me.

Just a note, these fun freebies are only available for a limited time – so don’t delay in getting your console updated to nab them.

Which boot experience lives rent free in your heart? Do you like the warming strings of the PS3 startup, or the brutal retro sound of the original PS1? Let us know in the comments or on social media – I am genuinely curious what people prefer.
