During the early hours of this morning, developer PlaySide revealed Game of Thrones: War for Westeros at Summer Game Fest. And it’s scheduled for a 2026 release on PC.
That’s right, George R.R. Martin’s critically acclaimed A Song of Ice and Fire novels have come to life once again in Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, but this time in a real-time free-for-all strategy game. The upcoming game will allow you to command one of the Great Houses, including House Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen, or stick with the true North and embody the chilling Night King. Each faction will feature different asymmetric strategies, with armies, mechanics, and designated heroes that possess their own unique hero abilities.

You’ll be able to outsmart your enemies in solo or multiplayer play and win the Iron Throne by not only deploying infantry, cavalry, siege engines, giants, and, of course, the much-beloved dragons but also through politics, loyalties, and outmanoeuvring enemies. Not to mention, you’ll see iconic fights and turning points from the Game of Thrones series re-envisioned. For those who would like a deeper look into the upcoming game, you can also view a short Reveal Dev Diary the team has put together.
