New Zealand developer Hyporeal has released a new trailer for its upcoming Hades-inspired action RPG Blackheart.
The trailer shows off more gameplay, giving us a look at new locations, enemies and abilities.
Blackheart was one of my picks of PAX Aus 2022, impressing me with its simple but intuitive gameplay, beautiful art style, and intriguing world. Speaking with Hyporeal founder and Blackheart’s creative director Josiah Hunt, the game has come a long way in the past 12 months.
“Over the past year we’ve been able to refine and polish the moment-to-moment gameplay, add a bunch of new enemies and abilities, and improve the graphics in basically every way, especially environments.
“We’ve also prototyped the whole second act of the game and started on the final act as well, so there’s been some great progress made.”
While Blackheart doesn’t have a firm release date, Hyporeal is aiming to launch the game in late 2024 on PC (you can add it to your Wishlist below). The studio hasn’t ruled out bringing Blackheart to more platforms in the future.
Hunt also informs me that after seeking out a publisher, the studio wasn’t able to find the right fit and will now self-publish Blackheart.
“Self-publishing means we can keep a much larger share of the revenue and have the community belong to us, rather than being dependant on the publisher for that.
“It does mean that we’ll have to make some compromises at launch, with English the only available language intially.”
