2015 Was A Glorious Year For PS4 In Australia

Strongest Festive Season in Australian PlayStation History, Steady Growth and Record Breaking Software Sales Reported in 2015.

As Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCE Aust.) looks towards 2016 with the promise of ground breaking innovation, great games and all round home entertainment services, the company releases 2015 [CY] results demonstrating record breaking momentum. In accordance with NPD Group Australia data, PlayStation4 accounted 59% of total current generation console units[i]. Additionally, the PS4 overall platform accounted for 59% of the total current generation market value, which includes Nintendo Wii U, PS4, Xbox One home consoles, games and peripherals.

The Xmas week and the month of December 2015 stood as landmark moments, with both being the highest performers on record in Australian PlayStation history. Festive season success was also replicated globally with the recently announced results of 35.9 million units sold through – 5.9 million of which sold during the 2015 festive season.

Luis Gil, NPD, says, “As PS4 maintains its leadership position in the home console market, it is evident that the home entertainment unit has played an instrumental role in the market success of the Australian Interactive Entertainment category.”

PlayStation 4 software is, according to the latest NPD Group Australia results, outselling its closest competitor by 82% in value and 84% in units. PS4 contributed to almost half (49.1%) of the total console software value in 2015.

Taking players on new adventures with every new software release, 2015’s current generation software line up was the strongest to date. Top 1st party performers were; Bloodborne, The Order: 1886 and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. These titles, along with the inclusion of Call of Duty®: Black Ops III, Fallout 4, FIFA 16 and Star Wars Battlefront from 3rd party publishers made it a record breaking year for software.

2016 promises to be another groundbreaking year, with highly anticipated exclusives such as Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Hello Games’ procedurally generated space exploration game, No Man’s Sky and Guerilla Games’ newest action RPG, Horizon Zero Dawn.
