This little tidbit has seemingly snuck under the radar. According to Twitter user Idle Sloth, Xbox quietly revealed during its recent ID@Xbox Developer Accelerator Program presentation at BIG Festival in Brazil that sales numbers of its Series X and S consoles have reached a combined 21 million units sold.

A quick search of VGChartz confirms the numbers, with the Xbox Series X|S sitting a good 17 million units behind the PlayStation 5’s 38 million sold to date, as both consoles reach the end of their third year on store shelves. Granted demand far outstripped supply during the first two years marred by a chip shortage and a certain global pandemic, but still, solid numbers.
What’s interesting to note is the amount of new Xbox users, amounting to 48% of Series S purchases. Though how much of that 21 million are, in fact, Series S consoles remains a mystery, the number of new members to the Xbox service has no doubt been spurred on by the success of Xbox Game Pass. With a new Xbox Series S due to hit the market soon with larger internal storage, along with the much anticipated release of Starfield, far more people may be joining them very soon too.
