Melbourne International Games Week Returns In-Person And Online

After two years online, MIGW is finally back in full force

After two years online, Melbourne International Games Week is finally returning in person. Known for being the biggest games industry event in the Asia Pacific region, it attracts game developers in droves from all over the world, with PAX Aus acting as the cherry on top, bridging the relationship between developers and gamers keen on seeing all that’s on offer.

Melbourne’s known for being a hub for all things games because of its active indie scene, with more than half of the country’s game studios based in the city. Just in the last few months alone, we’ve seen absolute powerhouse indie games release from our Melbourne indie studios such as Cult Of The Lamb and Wayward Strand, which is set to release on September 15.

The most notable industry events are returning this year, including:

  • Games Connect Asia Pacific (GCAP) from October 3-5:
GCAP is a professional development and networking event, allowing game developers from all over the world to come together and share industry knowledge.
  • Games for Change Asia Pacific Festival (G4C) from October 4-6:
The G4C festival empowers game creators to create gaming initiatives that improve the world around them.
  • Australian Game Developer Awards (AGDAs) on October 5:
It’s the Oscars but for games. See the greatest Australian indie games get rewarded for their brilliance.
  • Freeplay Parallels – the Indie Game Showcase on October 6:
It wouldn’t be games week without the industry rallying around our up-and-coming developers in this showcase of all the things that make indie development so intuitive.
  • PAX Aus from October 7-9:
After a two-year online covid hiatus, the hit-games expo is returning to Melbourne, promising plenty of new game demos, musical performances, live tournaments, and the Games Career Expo, along with game developers, and the biggest publishers. PAX is truly a celebration of how games can bring us together.
