Two new gameplay trailers for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy have been released, focusing on how players will lead the team.
Narrated by Eidos-Montréal Senior Gameplay Director Patrick Fortier, these two trailers give us a good look at how the entire Guardians team plays into gameplay. The game will have you directly controlling Star-Lord, the leader of the team, with all of the other members fighting and exploring by your side.
The first trailer explores combat, explaining that the Guardians each play a pivotal role during fights. While you control Star-Lord himself, you can call in each of the others to execute special moves, with each Guardian taking on a different role. Rocket uses explosives to deal damage across large groups, Groot is great for crowd control and can resurrect teammates, Drax staggers and displaces enemies and Gamora is a huge damage dealer that targets singular foes.
Star-Lord himself can zip around the battlefield using rocket boots while blasting enemies with elemental attacks from his blasters, becoming more varied as the game goes on.
When you’re not blasting, slicing, dicing and smashing enemies, the Guardians are still moving as a unit and working as a team. You’ll be able to wander around the Milano (the crew’s ship) discovering easter eggs, references and expanding on the game’s lore. Leaving the confines of the ship, you’ll be able to explore the planets that you visit, using each of the Guardian’s abilities to traverse landscapes and uncover secrets.
As the leader of the group, your actions will have consequences that’ll affect the team. Dialogue options and branching decisions will change how the dynamic within the team and will alter the story. Speaking of changing the team, there will be over 40 outfits for the Guardians to wear, ranging from some that are straight out of a comic page to others that will debut in the game.
The Guardians are a team that have excellent chemistry and work best when they’re together, so it’s great to see that Eidos-Montréal is making a real effort to represent that in the game.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy releases on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC on October 26, 2021.
