PlaySide Studios has revealed Shattered, a mixed reality horror/thriller title coming to Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S in December.
Developed by Melbourne-based team Playside Studios, Shattered is a puzzle-solving thriller title that looks like it flirts with the horror genre. In Shattered, players are trapped in a mental health institution and are tasked with escaping by finding clues, solving puzzles, and using their wits as they try to avoid wincing at the otherworldly threats appearing in front of them. More accurately, the player will be trapped in their own living space, as elements of the sinister facility are transposed into their physical space through a clever use of mixed reality.
The announcement trailer shows the player using mirror shards to open portals into the Greyvale facility before pulling objects through the portal and into their living room. Number clues and hidden messages revealed with a blacklight give Shattered an escape room feel while performing an autopsy on a disfigured cadaver, ghostly apparitions, and seeing your own house slowly fill with water definitely lean more into straight horror.

I’ve played my fair share of unsettling VR games, but there’s something about bringing the terror and unease into your own physical space that really has me worried. You can always take the headset off and come back to reality, but I doubt I’ll be able to look at my kitchen window the same way again if I spy a ghoul on the other side of it. If PlaySide manages to deliver on this concept, I can see Shattered being a hit with fools like me who like to elevate their heart rate purposefully.
Shattered will be releasing exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S in December this year.
