A few short days ago Valve dropped the first Team Fortress 2 news post in over two years, where they made mention that this summer an update will come that is described as “a full-on update-sized update”.
However, eagle eyed fans have noticed that the original blog post has had some wording shifted ever so slightly, in what I can only imagine is a desperate attempt to make sure people don’t blow a gasket with their expectations.
The most recent blog post on the official #TeamFortress2 website was edited. Only 3 minor changes, but it does clarify that this update will contain community-contributed bugfixes. pic.twitter.com/CDcItj3jwq

#teamfortress2 community when they find out that the previously community update turns into a holiday sized update (it was me for a bit) after a bit of thinking i understand that this is what a valve move would be but the worst part for me is that they didnt address the change. pic.twitter.com/QDtbNSSBVi

To the casual observer, the switch in nomenclature may seem like no big deal – but for any Team Fortress 2 fan worth their hat, they know that the descriptor of “Holiday Update” is a very particular type of update, and deflates the more grandiose thoughts of what may be coming.
It only takes mere seconds to look at something as colossal as the Jungle Inferno Update to see what kind of craziness can come from Valve when the roof is blown clean off. It introduced 5 new Pyro weapons, 5 new community-submitted maps, 1 new Valve-made map, 8 new taunts, 49 new cosmetics and the new War Paint system. It was mighty – a truly update sized update.
A “Holiday-sized” update leans closer to what we get for Christmas each year via the “Smissmas” events – including a range of new community-submitted cosmetics and maps. In this case the blog post also mentions war paints and community-contributed fixes for the game, so it paints a picture that we are likely in for something a little more exciting than Christmas, but less exciting than Jungle Inferno.
In short? Still in for a good time – just got to navigate the depression felt by some of those in the community that they aren’t getting a new minigun for the Heavy.
