So They Are Making Warhammer 40,000 Darktide Into A Tabletop Game

Hold on, this seems oddly familiar somehow

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has done a lot to turn right its course and set itself up for some long term success, with a few reinventions and some very ambitious system redesigns – but the one space that the game had yet to dominate was the tabletop.

Well, consider that wrong to be sufficiently righted – as Games Workshop has now announced a tabletop version of the hit video game:

It’s kind of brilliant really, Games Workshop letting their IP come full circle and roost right at home alongside all of the other products that form the estranged family of Darktide. A bit like an inspirative ouroboros devouring it’s own tail – only with a price tag and plastic miniatures.

For the cynics out there, I do need to stress that Game Workshop has a respectable history when it comes to packaged game experiences away from their usual game systems – netting the buyer a fairly tight standalone experience that sheds a lot of the baggage and stress of the bigger army-based stuff. So consider me both tickled at the premise, and interested to see how it turns out. My only real beef is the terrible miniature they have packaged to represent the Zealot – in game, the Zealot is a vengeful basher of craniums, not a fire wielding loony with a goofy headdress. But, as somewhat of a hobby wizard myself – nothing I can’t fix.

As for the premise of buying a real-life version of Darktide to play with mates – it’s got some real Street Fighter™: The Movie: The Game energy to it. Maybe Warhammer 40,000: Darktide – The Videogame: The Tabletop Experience?
